Are the plans stamped or signed by an architect or engineer?
House plans are not stamped or signed by an architect or engineer. In addition, some house plans usually include structural engineering notes/calculations. Please check with your local building authority to determine if a seal is required. If required, the building department will only accept a seal from a licensed professional in the state where the home is being built. Depending on the building requirements of your city, county and state, home plans may be reviewed by a locally licensed architect or engineer for structural details and code standards before construction begins. This is especially true in coastal areas and areas that experience seismic events, high winds, and heavy snow. If you are building in any of these areas, a licensed structural engineer will likely be required to provide the necessary calculations and additional drawings.
